The problem: leaking drains under a busy pool

A Denver university’s pool had a leaking drain system. The conventional fix would have meant draining the pool completely, cutting up the deck and digging out the old piping. That would have closed the facility for a long stretch in the middle of the school year. Here is how commercial CIPP lining turned it into a short closure for this Denver campus.

Our proposal: line it from the surge tank

We suggested a different approach: commercial CIPP lining of the drain lines, working from inside the pool’s surge tank with the pool only half drained. Before we started, we went through the plan in detail with the school’s officials so everyone knew how the work would proceed and what would be tested afterward.

One of the harder trenchless jobs

Pool plumbing tests any lining crew. The runs are long, the bends are tight, and the prep work is extensive. We inspected every line first. When one section of a pool drain system has failed, the rest is usually close behind. Then we launched a single 12-inch liner from inside the tank and ran it 200 feet through the drain lines. Once saturated with resin, that liner weighed nearly 800 pounds going in. The cured result sealed every joint and every 90-degree bend along the way.

Results the administration could see

The lining itself took one day. Inspections and approvals took longer than the work. A post-lining camera survey and a water leak test both passed. The university had expected a major, disruptive construction project and got a short closure instead. They’ve since called us back for other pipelines on campus.
